With the System File Checker tool, administrators can scan all protected files to verify their version. The System File Checker tool also checks and repopulates the %SystemRoot%System32Dllcache folder. If the Dllcache folder is corrupted or unavailable, you can use the "sfc /scanonce" or "sfc /scanboot" command to fix the contents of the folder.

Syntax for the System File Checker Tool

The /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces the wrong version with the correct Microsoft version. This command also repopulates the DLLCache folder with the latest version of the protected file. To do this, you need to access the Windows installation source files and the installed service pack files. You are usually prompted to specify the location of these files during a scan operation.
