Vista firewall is not fully functional. Users cannot set

Microsoft has claimed that Windows Vista is much more secure than Windows XP and that Windows Vista offers a new firewall with two-way filtering as a prime example.

However, when Windows Vista was released, people found that Windows Firewall did not provide much protection for outgoing communications. It's not clear how to set up the protection of the network to protect against spyware, Trojan horses and zombies.

Products such as Windows Firewall work by preventing PCs from making dangerous connections on the Internet. The Windows XP firewall provides inbound communication protection, but does not provide outbound communication protection. Some malware conducts covert outbound communications to contact hackers, allowing hackers to control the user's PC. In some cases, the user's computer will be turned into a zombie computer by the hacker, helping the hacker to send a large amount of spam without the user's knowledge.

Microsoft added the ability to filter outbound traffic when creating a firewall for Windows Vista. By default, most outbound traffic filtering for Windows Vista firewalls is turned off. In addition, there may be no viable way to use outbound traffic filtering to block unwanted outbound connections.

In general, to configure Windows Vista Firewall, you need to select the Control Panel, then select the Security option, then close or open the Windows Firewall. However, this page of Windows Vista does not allow you to set the Internet traffic filtering for Windows Firewall.

As you can see, there is no way to set up traffic filtering for outgoing networks. You can only turn off and turn on traffic filtering for incoming networks.

To use the outbound communication filtering function, you must use the Microsoft Management Console, especially the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Group Policy Template, type wf.msc in the search dialog or at the command prompt. And press the Enter key. You will see various files. However, there is no rule that matches the outgoing connection. In short, setting the firewall filtering function of the firewall in Windows Vista is an impossible task.

Microsoft said that the Windows Vista firewall can indeed perform some outbound traffic filtering, but this filtering function is not visible to users. Jason Leznek, senior product manager at Microsoft, said the outbound filtering is enabled as a core Windows service as part of the Windows service enhancements.

Microsoft said the firewall could block some malware. However, Leznek admits that this firewall cannot block all malware. He said that a more effective way to filter than the net is to use anti-spyware such as Windows Defender.
