In the Vision Forum, I posted a patch to Vista and other Windows multi-boot menus via bcdedit.exe (Vista----X:\\Windows\\system32\\). This is a command-line program that will use a lot of The command is extremely inconvenient for ordinary users. So I suggest you use VistaBoot Pro 1.0. VistaBoot Pro 1.0 provides a graphical user interface that makes it easy to modify settings so that it is not difficult for the average user.

VistaBoot Pro 1.0 Installation Instructions:
1 Wndows XP system must have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed to install this software.
2 After installing under Windows Vista, you must right-click on the program or its shortcut, select "Run with administrator account" or close "UAC", otherwise there will be an error message box with insufficient permissions.
3 If the system is equipped with a firewall, it must be allowed to access the network.

How to use VistaBoot Pro 1.0:
1 Current Settings: Here you can view the current boot manager configuration information. Before you check, it is recommended to select “File→Check for Updates” for detection or execute “ Rescan BCD Registry" rescans to ensure that the current configuration information is up to date.

2 Change Settings: Users can set the default startup operating system here, select it directly from the drop-down list box, the usage is similar to "System Properties→Advanced→Startup and Recovery", directly after modification Click the "Apply!" button to take effect. It must be noted that the option to remove the Vista Boot Loader is also provided here, but please be careful before using it, because you will not be able to enter Vista after deletion.

3 Manage Entries: Here you can adjust the order of each item in the multi-boot menu, you can select the two buttons "Up" and "Down", of course, you can also delete a startup item here. You can also add an operating system here. For example, I am adding an operating system named "Windows XP SP2 Professional" here, and the bootloader is "C".

4 Backup/Restore: This is a special feature of VistaBootPRO. We can back up the current settings to a file and restore the previous personalization settings at any time.

5 Select "Legack Editor" under the "Tools" menu to open Notepad to edit the boot.ini file. Of course, you can modify only the startup project other than Windows Vista.

After setting the command "bcdedit" to view the settings
methods: ① Open the "Run" (Start> Run), type cmd
② enter bcdedit

boot file backup

After the setup is complete and restarted, the dual system is used. Now, you have to do an important thing to back up the files. Backup is very important. These files are hidden, must open the folder options are set, the boot file

⑴ backup for (file located in the "current boot disk where the program" For example, in this case, the C drive): Boot (folder); autoexec .bat;bootmgr.sys;config.sys;BOOTSECT.BAK;boot.ini;bootfont.bin;IO.SYS;MSDOS.SYS;NTDETECT.COM;ntldr.sys where Boot(folder);autoexec.bat;bootmgr .sys;config.sys;BOOTSECT.BAK is the boot of Vista, and boot.ini;bootfont.bin;IO.SYS;MSDOS.SYS;NTDETECT.COM;ntldr.sys is the boot of Win XP.
(2) Backup BCD file: 1 Open “Run” (Start > Run), enter cmd
2 Enter bcdedit /export "X:\\XXX\\bcd"
Restore BCD file: 1 Open "Run" ( Start > Run), type cmd
2 Enter bcdedit /import "X:\\XXX\\bcd"
In the figure, I backed up the BCD file to the "f:\\123\\" folder, and from "f :\\123\\"Recover under folder. The BCD file is located in the "C:\\Boot\\" folder.

2. Reinstall the dual system

but it is a problem, some people want to reinstall WinXP or Vista. There is no dual system boot menu after installation, there are two forms here.

first: Vista is installed on the C drive, Vista does not move, re-install Win XP.
Method 1: Since the Win XP is reinstalled, the boot file of Win XP in the C drive does not move, then only the BCD file that was previously backed up can be restored. (Recommended)
Method 2: Is to use VistaBoot Pro 1.0 again.
Second: Vista installed on the C drive, Win XP does not move, reinstall Vista.
Because Vista is installed on the C drive, after the installation, the boot files of Win XP in the C drive will disappear, then copy the Win XP boot file to the C drive. Then use the method of restoring the BCD file to restore the dual system boot menu.

Note: This method must ensure that the file C disk boot WinXP and Vista without loss, after the proposed system installed back them, preferably all backups.
