Why does Windows XP prompt for unread mail

Q: When I start Windows XP, sometimes the welcome screen will prompt that there are several unread emails. I have never connected to the Internet before, so the inbox is definitely empty. What is going on here?
A: If you always see unread messages on the welcome screen, they are likely to be automatically generated welcome messages in Outlook Express or Hotmail mail accounts. Use the mouse to click on the unread mail link on the welcome screen to find out which mail accounts Windows XP calls unread mail belong to, and enter these mail programs to delete. If you can't solve it completely, you can also find the accounts for these unread messages from the registry, which are located under the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\UnreadMail] key. If you don't want Windows XP to track unread mail for a mail account, just delete the corresponding mail account here. If Windows XP thinks that an account has new mail but it doesn't, just set the corresponding Message Count key to 0. Create a Message ExpiryDays subkey under UnreadMail and set it to 0 to disable the Windows XP welcome screen from displaying unread messages. If you are not familiar with modifying the registry, you can also modify it using the TweakUI program on the system CD. The method is to install and start TweakUI, select Logon→ Unread mail in turn, and clear the Show unread mail on Welcome screen option.
