Windows operating system dynamic desktop performance test report

I believe many of my friends are far from the Windows DreamScene (Dynamic Desktop) program, so how much impact does Windows DreamScene have on machine performance? Take a look at the test report.

1. Test Environment

Application: 7Zip v4.42, Windows Media Player 11, SuperPI 1.5, 3DMark 2006 and PCMark 2005

Hardware Platform 1: Intel Core2Duo @ 2.16 Ghz, 2 GB of RAM @ 667Mhz, ATI x1650PRO 512MB DDR2, Western Digital 2500KS HDD

Hardware Platform 2: AMD Athlon64 3800+, 2GB of RAM, a GeForce6 GT 128MB DDR2

2 Test Results

Using 7Zip to package a 231MB file, the result shows that the difference between opening and closing DreamScene is 5% (14 seconds).

Using Windows Media Player 11 to copy audio CD tests shows that the difference between DreamScene off and on is 1% (3 seconds).

Running the latest version of SuperPI in the default state shows that the DreamScene switch differs by only 2% (0.6 seconds).

3DMark 2006 test: The results of running 3 times are consistent, and the performance difference is shown in the following figure (the difference is not big).

PCMark 2005 test: The performance degradation rate is 4.8%.

3, Conclusion

With the above test, it can be seen that the performance difference caused by DreamScene to the system is not large, the difference is from 0%-7%. If you run the program in full screen state, DreamScene will be turned off and there is no impact on performance. However, please note that the test platform is very powerful (compared to the old machine, the new machine can generally be reached), the CPU is dual-core. If your machine is not strong enough, the performance impact of running DreamScene and the application at the same time will be great, especially for older machines.
