Four ways to safely remove Windows XP SP2

The release of Windows XP Service Pack 2 has attracted the attention of countless people. Many people can't wait to download and install. However, many new features and many improvements of SP2 may not be the same as your original machine. The hardware or application is very compatible, and I believe this has caused trouble for many people. If you reinstall the system for this, it is not worth the candle. Many people must be concerned about how to uninstall SP2 while keeping the system up and running.

Using the Add or Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel

1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then Click "OK."

2. Click to select the Show Updates check box.

3. Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.

Using the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder

1. Click Start, click Run, type c:windows$NtServicePackUninstall$spuninstspuninst.exe in the Open box And click "OK".

2. After the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Removal Wizard starts, click Next.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.

Using the System Recovery Process

1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%System32restorerstrui.exe in the Open box, and then click OK .

2. Click "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click Next.

3. Click to select the date when you installed Windows XP SP2, and then click Installed Window XP Service Pack 2 in the Restore Points box.

4. Click Next and follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.

Using the Recovery Console

If you have tried all of the above methods and still cannot successfully remove Windows XP SP2, follow these steps: 1. Insert the Windows XP Startup disk into the floppy disk drive , or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer. When the following message appears on the screen, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD: Press any key to boot from the CD

Note: Your computer must be configured to boot from the CD drive or DVD drive. For more information about how to configure your computer to boot from a CD drive or DVD drive, see the documentation that came with your computer or contact your computer manufacturer.

2. When the following message appears on the screen, press the R key to start the Recovery Console: Welcome to the installer

3. Select your Windows XP installation. This installation is usually located in the C:\\Windows directory.

4. Type the administrator password as prompted. If you don't have an administrator password, press Enter.

5. At the command prompt, type cd $ntservicepackuninstall$spuninst and press Enter.

6. Warning: When you complete this step, you will not be able to terminate the removal process.

At the command prompt, type batch spuninst.txt and press Enter.

7. When the removal process is complete, type exit and press Enter.

8. Restart your computer.

Important: After the computer restarts, Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) does not run, you must follow these steps:

a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to start Task Manager .

b. Click the Applications tab and then click New Task.

c. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.

d. Locate the following registry subkey and click on it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesRpcSs

e. Right-click on ObjectName, click Modify, and then Type LocalSystem in the Value data box.

f. Restart your computer

9. Use one of the above methods to remove Windows XP SP2 from your computer.
