Eight things you must do to install Win XP SP2

Although the SP2 has received rave reviews since the launch of the SP2, there are still some users who feel that they have fallen into hell after installing SP2, and all kinds of troubles come one after another. what is the reason? Most of them are caused by insufficient preparation before installation. If you haven't installed SP2 yet, or want to upgrade to SP2, be sure to do eight things before installing SP2.

First: Clearing viruses and Trojans

If there is no anti-virus, after installing SP2, the local connection is unavailable or similar network failure, it is likely that these viruses or The Trojan is stalking from it. At this time, just download and run WinsockXPFix.exe file, download address: http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm. After running, as shown in Figure 1. First click the ReG-Backup button to back up the system registry, then click the Fix button and follow the prompts to fix it.

Although this tool can solve these problems, but still strongly recommended before installing SP2 antivirus thoroughly. The reason is simple. Viruses and Trojans may bundle themselves into new system files after the SP2 installation replaces the system files.

Second: Update Hardware Drivers

SP2 is designed with driver protection. This feature helps protect the stability of the operating system by preventing the operating system from loading drivers that are known to cause stability problems. If you do not upgrade their drivers before installing SP2, you may be given unnecessary trouble. It should be noted that we should mainly focus on the driver upgrade issues of various external interfaces such as PCI cards and USB, without having to consider drivers such as keyboards and mice.

Method: Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Click the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Hardware Manager" button to see the current list of all hardware, as shown in Figure 2. After downloading the latest drivers directly from the official website of each hardware, update the drivers in the Device Manager. After clicking the appropriate device, click "Update Driver" and follow the prompts to specify the location of the new driver.

Not all the old drivers of the hardware will cause trouble, but there are indeed some hardware, such as: nVidia graphics driver (the latest driver address; http://h10025.www1.hp .com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-19853-2), a list of device drivers known to cause SP2 instability is available at http://support.microsoft.com/Kb/883775.
