Win2K/XP: Cleverly Blocking Messenger Service

In Windows XP/2000, the "messenger service" is named "Messenger" in the service list, which is used to transfer Net Send and Alerter between client and server ( Alarm) service message. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. By default, the "message service" is turned on, so when your computer is connected to the Internet, some websites (including the manufacturer's website) can send some information through the service, and a message called "" will pop up on the target user's computer. The messenger service's pair of
boxes. These unsolicited "messengers" are often useless information such as advertisements, and the sudden "message service" can interfere with work when you use your computer. We can use the following method to turn off the Messenger service.

1. Run the command method

Click the Windows Start menu and click Run. In the Open box, type net stop messenger. Click the "OK" button.

The command "net stop messenger" is used to stop the "message service". To enable the "message service", use the "net start messenger" command.

2. Service Setting Method

Open the Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and double-click Services. Click "Messenger", then on the Actions menu, click Properties. Go to the General tab, click the Stop button, and change the Startup Type to Manual or Disabled. If the "Messenger" service is stopped, the Alerter message will not be transmitted. If the "Messenger" service is disabled, any services that depend directly on it will not be able to start, which is exactly what we want. Finally click the "OK" button.

In the future, the annoying "messenger service" will not bother you any more.
