Improve XP boot speed? Set up read-ahead files to solve

Although there is a pre-read file function in XP system to take advantage of this feature to improve system performance and speed up system boot and file read speed. However, as the usage time increases, each time the user uses a program, the system will leave an index file with the PF extension in the folder. At this time, we have to start the system very slowly. Therefore, if we cleverly set the pre-reading files, can we not increase the startup speed of the system? Let's work together.

I. Close related services

Enter “msconfig” in the "Run" window and press Enter to open the System Configuration Utility window and switch to the "Services" tab Then, cancel the checkmark in front of the "TaskScheduler" item and save the settings. This will prevent the index file from being created.

Second, only read the system file

Since Prefetch saves the index information of the system and application, from the perspective of improving the startup speed, you can only set the read system file, and jump Through the application's index file reading process. To do this, you can run “regedit” after opening the registry editor, select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSessionManagerMemoryManagementPrefetchParameters, double click on the right side of "EnablePrefetcher", you can see the value of 3, that is, read system files and applications, we can put it Change to 2, that is, only pre-read Windows system files.

Third, shut down automatically clear the pre-read file

We can also automatically clear the contents of the pre-read folder when shutting down, in order to speed up the next boot speed. Open Notepad and enter del%systemroot%Prefetch*.*/q in it to save the file as a del.bat file. Then open the "Run" window, enter gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor, select "Computer Configuration & mdash; Windows Settings & mdash; Script", double click on the right side of the "Shutdown" item. Click the “Add” button in the window that opens to add the del.bat file. In this way, when the system is shut down, the group policy will call del.bat in the background and run the commands to clear the contents of the pre-read folder, thus improving the speed of the next startup.

After the above detailed introduction, users who want to improve the startup speed of the XP system, it is better to set the PF file ingeniously, prohibiting the generation of pre-read files, I believe that the XP system can be slow to start. It is.
