The role of small-capacity USB flash drive: Transformed router

USB flash drive is used for doing it, many people will blurt out that it is storage, although it is correct, but in fact, USB flash drive has a greater role. Some chicken-ribbed small-capacity U-disks are too small to be used. It seems to be a pity to lose them. But now with a small transformation, with our computer, you can get a powerful router, not only saves the money to buy routing, but this router is basically not available in the market!

Introduction to DD-WRT

Every router device we usually use has its own operating system OS, which is used to set and manage various functions of the routing device. In fact, what we usually call upgrade the router firmware is to upgrade the operating system in the routing device to make the routing device more powerful.

DD-WRT is a Linux operating system, but it is essentially a third-party router firmware. Its routing and network management capabilities are very powerful and are widely used in Linksys WRT54G/GS/GL, or other 802.11g wireless routers based on the Broadcom reference design. The DD-WRT can be flushed to the supported router devices to make the router more powerful. Similarly, we can also let DD-WRT run independently on a computer, as long as the corresponding hardware is provided, the computer can realize the function of the router!

Hardware Preparation

As long as one is idle A small USB flash drive that is not used is enough. Of course, this USB flash drive cannot be used as a router alone. However, it can be used as a very small server, and it can be used with a variety of different computers. At the same time, it is necessary to add a network card or a hub to the whole machine.

Install DD-WRT x86 version

Now, you need to route firmware DD-WRT for U disk & brush; In general, to brush the firmware, of course, there must be hardware devices, here to brush the routing firmware, according to common sense, is to brush the firmware on the router. But here we are directly refreshing the firmware to the U disk. The capacity of DD-WRT is only about 11MB. The old U disk mostly has about 16MB to 128MB of space. It is absolutely enough. Here we use the firmware on a 64MB U disk as an example:

DD -WRT X86 version of "dd-wrt-public-vga.image (hard disk /memory card installation image file)" and "physdiskwrite 0.5.1 (router IMG write disk tool)", and extract to the same folder In the CMD command prompt window, enter the folder where the program is located. Execute the following command: <;physdiskwrite.exe-u dd-wrt_public_vga.image”, the program will automatically detect the hard disk and mobile storage device in the current system, and display the serial number and related parameters of all storage devices. Check the information of “Information for\\\\.\\.PhysicalDrive*” for details, and confirm the serial number of the old U disk. “PhysicalDrive*” is to specify the serial number of the hard disk and U disk device. Generally speaking, if there is only one hard disk on the machine, then the serial number of the connected USB disk is “PhysicalDrive1”; if the new machine has two hard disks, the old machine U disk serial number is “PhysicalDrire2”, and so on.
