XP share continues to decline Win7 rose in June or over XP

New data shows that Microsoft's 10-year-old Windows XP share continues to decline, and in June this year, Windows XP share is expected to be surpassed by Windows 7.

According to Net Applications data, Windows XP's share fell by 1.8 percentage points last month, with a share of 45.4%. This is the fastest month since November 2011. In February, Windows XP reached a milestone, and its share of all Windows PCs fell below half for the first time. On all Windows PCs, 49.4% runs XP.

At the same time, the Windows 7 share continued to grow, winning 1.7 percentage points by the end of February, accounting for 38.1% of desktop operating system usage. If the speed remains stable, Windows 7 will replace Windows XP in June.

The share of Windows Vista has never exceeded 20%, and its share last month fell by 0.1 percentage points to 8.1%.

The overall share of Windows declined slightly, reaching 91.9%. In the past four months, its share has grown, remained flat, or fell by 0.1 percentage point. The last time Windows fell more than 0.5 percentage points, still in October 2011.

The Windows 8 Consumer Preview released on Wednesday has no impact on share data. It will not be available until this fall. If it can dramatically change the OS market, it will mean that the Windows 7 uptrend will stop. When Windows 7 went on the market, Vista's share reached its peak and then fell all the way.

XP users will be able to upgrade to Windows 8, as long as the PC specifications meet the minimum requirements, that is, the CPU reaches 1 GHz and the memory reaches 1 GB.

In February, only about 0.02% of PCs were running Windows 8 Developer Preview, and Microsoft launched this version in September 2011. In the report, the fourth place is Mac OS X 10.6, with a share of 3%, and the fifth is Mac OS X 10.7 with a share of 2.69%.
