How to implement UNIX remote printing in WINDOWS XP

UNIX operating system is to implement network printer sharing (lpd and lpr) under TCP/IP, so for a UNIX network, to support TCP/IP printing function, its server-side UNIX The operating system and client-side Windows XP operating system must start the daemon lpd. The printing is controlled by lpd, and the data to be printed is sent to the actual printer, thereby realizing remote printing of Windows XP in the UNIX network. Below I will give you a detailed introduction to how to achieve UNIX remote printing on Windows XP. The following three steps must be taken: Step 1: Remove the old TCP/IP remote printer settings in XP. 1) Click "Start" --> "Settings" --> "Printers and Faxes". 2) Delete the old TCP/IP remote printer settings. Failure to do this may result in system conflicts. Step 2: Install the UNIX components 1) Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. 2) Open the "Network Connections" folder. 3) In the "Advanced (N)" menu, select "Optional Network Components". 4) Tick the "Other Network File and Print Service" option in the "WINDOWS Optional Network Component Wizard" dialog box, and then proceed to "Next" to install "UNIX Print Service". Follow the prompts to install on the Windows XP CD. After installation, you can click "Details" to check if the installation is complete. Step 3: Add a remote printer. 1) Open "Start" -> "Settings" --> "Printers and Faxes" to start "Add Printer". 2) In the "Local or Network Printer" dialog box, select "Local printer connected to this computer" and cancel the "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" option to proceed to the next step. 3) Select "Create New Port" in the "Select Selector Port" dialog box, then select the "LPR PORT" option to proceed to the next step. 4) In the "Add LPR Compatible Printer" dialog box, enter "Provide the name or address of the LPD server", for example: 192.168.100.1. "Printer name or print queue name on the server", such as: UXEP. This needs to be set according to the relevant information on the LPD print server in the UNIX network. Once confirmed, a virtual port will be generated that points to the printer on the print server that provides lpd. 5) Select this port, then select the printer manufacturer and model number, enter the name of the currently configured network printer (such as UXEP above), and the system will assign the corresponding printer driver to this port. Set the printer to not share. Finally, the test page is printed and the test is completed. The above text briefly explains how to make Windows XP users remotely use UNIX network printers.
