How to use disk quotas in Windows XP

Windows 2000/XP has a disk quota feature. As long as disk quotas are enabled, you can limit the maximum disk usage of any user or group in each hard disk partition. Any user at any time cannot exceed the quota assigned to him. Let's take Windows XP Professional as an example to see how to use disk quotas.

using disk quotas in addition to the requirements of the operating system, you must have Administrator rights, and the configuration partition must be formatted with the NTFS file system.

To set quotas, open My Computer, right-click the disk partition for which you want to enable disk quotas, and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box, single Click on the "Quotas" tab. On the Quota Properties page, select the Enable Quota Management check box, and then click Apply. The disk quota feature is now enabled, but the settings at this time do not limit the disk usage of any users. At this time, you need to configure 4 check options (3 and 4 of the options are not used by ordinary users, not to mention here), the following two options: 1,BR:
1. Reject Allocating disk space to users who exceed the quota limit

Users who exceed their quota limit will receive a "out of disk space" prompt. If you do not delete or move some existing files from the partition first, you will no longer be able to Write additional data to it. Only by selecting this option can the disk capacity limit be used.

2. to develop the capacity of disk space disk space limit

input allows the user to use the new partition. A decimal value can be used (for example, 20.5). For disk space and warning levels, select the appropriate unit from the drop-down list (for example, KB, MB, GB, etc.).

After completing the above configuration, there is an option on this page called quota item. After opening, you will find that there is an administrator user by default, and the limit is 0. At this time, you can click “Quota/New Quota Item”. In “Advanced/Find” you can find all users on this machine and Group, select the users and groups to limit the disk quota, click [OK], then a new dialog box appears, where you can configure the disk quota limit for the selected user again. Finally click [OK], then return to the list of quota items. At this time, a record will be added to the list, which is the one you just configured. After the verification is correct, the dialog box is closed. The disk quota setting is now complete. You can repeat the above to add a new quota item.

final reminder that disk quotas are based on file ownership, regardless of the user's files in the partition folder location. For example, if a user creates a 200KB file and another user takes ownership of the file, the disk space used by the first user is reduced by 200KB, and the disk space used by the second user is increased by 200KB
