Home Edition WinXP can also set user permissions

Many users have a special liking for branding, and the genuine operating system pre-installed in this brand is also an important reason for purchase. Unfortunately, most of the pre-installed operating system brand machines have chosen the home version of Windows XP, although the function of the professional version is almost the same, but in terms of security, manageability, etc., it is really a bit bad, as in the professional version. Set specific user permissions for a folder or file, but users who use the Home Edition can only "look at the ocean". However, now you don't have to worry about finding a professional version. With File Security Manager (hereinafter referred to as FSM), you can set file permissions.

Tip: Want to know the difference between the home version and the professional version? Check it out at http://www.microsoft.com/china/windowsxp/comparison.asp, here is the authoritative explanation of Microsoft!

Installation and operation

Log in to http://www.onlinedown.net/soft/39676.htm, download FSM and unzip it, double-click the executable program and keep “Next” )". After the installation is complete, in addition to running through the shortcut on the desktop, you can also open the FSM main interface by using the "Open File Security Manager" in any right mouse button on any file or folder (Figure 1). . Since it is shareware, when you run it for the first time, check "Register later" in the pop-up dialog box and click the "Continue Trial" button to run normally.

Next, let's take a look at how to set up to prevent users from "ll" access to the D:\\QQ\\ad folder. Of course, before setting permissions, you also need to ensure that the target file is located. Partitions use the NTFS disk format!

Add User

Open the D:\\QQ folder in the FSM main interface, right click on the ad folder and select “Permissions” to open the permission editing interface. The "Permissions tab" lists the current list of users and user permissions that have permissions to the ad folder (Figure 2).

If we need to assign permissions to users Not necessarily in the list, you can click the “Add” button to open the “Select Account Name” window, and use the “Find” button to search for all user names in the current system (see Figure 3). ), select the user name you need to set permissions and click "OK" to complete the addition.

If you want to make subfolders or files under the ad folder have The same permissions for the ad folder, you can select "This folder, subfolders and files" in "Apply Onto", then select "Deny" in the list of permissions below. Refusal) "column in the" Full (complete) "option, then select all the columns below will be automatically selected, and finally click" OK "button to complete the set.

change /remove permissions

When you need to change or cancel the setting of user rights, just click the "Edit" button after selecting the target user, and return to the "Permissions" tab to make changes. In addition, delete the settings for the user "ll" Permissions or when you want to clean up the extra users in the permission list, just click on the "remove" button and the permissions set for the user will disappear. If you find that the "remove" button is not available, Clear the check before "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries exblicitlv defined here" (inheriting the rights items that can be applied to the child objects from the parent, including those explicitly defined here) In the box that pops up, select "Yes" to delete the user.

Tip: In the "owner" The owner of the ") tab can view the owner of the folder; in the "Effective Permissions" tab you can see the specific permissions that other users have for the folder.

Using the "Security Wizard"

In order to adapt to users of different purposes or operational levels, FSM also provides the "Security Wizard" permission setting method, even if you do not know the "user rights" knowledge, you can easily reach it through it Set the permissions for yourself. For example, the above example, we can also follow the "wizard": right click on the ad folder and select "Securty Wizard" to open the "Security Wizard", select "permissions assignnent" and continue "Next" to enter the permission settings interface (Figure 5).
Figure 5
First add the target user through the "Add" button on the right side of the "Account" list, then select the desired permission in "usable", such as "Deny all" (all rejected), the specific permission entries on the right will be deselected all, and finally click the "Finish" button to end the settings and take effect.

Tip: All available permissions in "usable" are essentially the combination of the right related permissions items. As long as you select a permission combination in the left list, you don't have to go to the right list again. Of course, it is also possible to add or remove personality on the preset permission combination.

Ok, now that we have completed the permission setting for the ad folder, when the user "ll" opens the folder, the "Access Denied" dialog box will appear, no longer have to worry about the file. Security!
