The security features of Windows XP can be improved a lot. You can protect your privacy by setting a password for your account, but what if you forget the password yourself?
Help with password reset disk
In order to protect user accounts if the user forgets the password, each local user should make a password reset disk and save it in a safe place. . Thus, when the user forgets his or her own password, the password reset disk can be used to reset the password, so that the user can continue to access the local user account, and the original data is not lost.
The steps to perform this task vary, depending on whether the computer is a network domain (domain, a group of computers that make up part of the network and share a common directory database. A domain is managed as a unit and There are common rules and procedures. Each domain has a unique name) member or workgroup (workgroup, simple computer grouping, just want to help users complete things like printers and shared folders in that group. Workgroups in Windows do not provide a subset of the centralized user accounts and authentication provided by the domain or separate computers. The following is introduced separately in different situations.
1. Computer in the domain
Method:
1 Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the “Windows Security” dialog box.
2Click "Change Password".
3Click "Backup" to open the Forgot Password Wizard.
4 Click “Next” and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to get a password reset disk.
2. The computer is not in the domain
Figure 1
Method: Click "Start" /"Control Panel" /"User "Account", select your account in the pop-up dialog box, and then click the "block a forgotten password" item, as shown in Figure 1, then follow the "forgot password guide" step by step, until completed, you can get A password reset disk. Don't forget to take it away! It can be easily logged into your account with others.
3. Password reset disk application
If you forget your login password when you start your own account, then you will need to reset the password. The method is very simple: Insert the password reset disk into the floppy drive, click the arrow to the right next to your account, and then click the password reset disk in the pop-up prompt box. Follow the pop-up "Password Reset Wizard" prompt to change the password and start the computer. Then you can put the password reset disk back in a safe place, and you don't need to recreate a new password reset disk. This disk is valid no matter how many times you change the password.

Help with users with administrator privileges
If you have not created a password reset disk, you forgot your account What should I do with my login password? This requires a user with administrator privileges to help you, and there are two different situations.
Figure 3
1. If your computer has an administrator account (other than the administrator account), you can use this account to log in and can Create and change passwords for all users on your computer. Click "Start" /"Control Panel" /"User Account", select the account name forgot your password and click "Change Password" (if your computer is connected to the domain, it will be displayed as "Reset Password"), as shown in Figure 2. . Follow the wizard prompts to complete the password change step by step, and then log in with the newly changed password.
2. If your computer does not have an administrator account, you can only log in with the system administrator administrator account and change the password of the user on the computer. The administrator administrator account is only visible on the welcome screen when there is no other account (except the guest account guest) or when you start the computer in safe mode. There are two solutions depending on your machine settings.
One is to start the computer directly in safe mode (at the moment the machine starts, press F8, select the first item "Safe Mode" and press Enter), and select the administrator administrator account to log in to the Windows system on the welcome screen. The rest is the same as the above method.
The other is that if you changed the Group Policy settings before, you forced the user to log in to the computer using the "typical" login screen (click "Start" /"Run" and enter "gpedit." in the dialog box. Msc" open the group policy, as shown in Figure 3, and then expand "Computer Configuration" /"Management Templates" /"System" /"Login", select "Always use traditional login" on the right, set to "Enabled") . In this way, a welcome screen with an input dialog box will appear when logging in (if the disabled or unconfigured, the administrator option is not optional), just enter "administrator" and password in the dialog box to log in, so that you don't have to use safe mode. Start the computer, and the rest of the way to change the password is the same as above.
Tip: If a user with a computer administrator account changes the password of another user, the system may cause data loss in order to protect the protected information. Some types of information will no longer be accessible. These include: emails encrypted by the user's public key; Internet passwords stored on or recorded by the computer; files that have been encrypted by the user. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you use the password reset disk function to reset the password.
Using third-party password recovery software
There are also many password recovery software available today, such as Windows XP/2000/NT Key, which can help you recover forgotten or lost Windows XP/2000/NT operating system boot password. You may wish to find it online. These tools are relatively simple to use, and I won't go into details here.
