Useful and manageable partition management of the drive letter (a)

As early as the era of Windows 95 and 98, I used to change the drive letter to X: or Y:. In this way, you can avoid the system automatically moving the drive letter backwards every time you add a new hard disk. Secondly, for some software, you often need to read the document from the previous CD-ROM drive letter after installation. The software is not working properly. It is directly changed to a few characters behind the alphabet. How to add a hard disk, as long as the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive does not change, it will not cause this kind of problem. Of course, many programs now have the ability to automatically search for the drive letter, even if the drive letter changes, it can run normally. But old problems are not so easy to get rid of, right? And changing the drive letter is a good thing for users who often use the USB expansion port to manage their drive letters more programmatically. Below we introduce this modification method. First, you must log in to the system as an administrator. From “Start”Go to “Control Panel"“Administrative Tools" "Computer Management" in the pop-up window to expand the left side of "Storage", select "Disk Management", in the right window You will see the status, capacity, drive letter, etc. of all storage devices on your computer. Of course, the floppy drive is not shown here (if you have a floppy drive in your system). Click on the drive letter in the upper right window and select “change drive name and path”. In the pop-up dialog you will see that the previously selected drive letter is highlighted. Click “Change”, and a dialog box will pop up with the message "The following drive number: ”" is displayed. In the drop-down menu behind it, you can redefine a new drive letter for the hard drive you have divided. Click OK to retreat to the interface that started. You now look at “My Computer", the drive letter of the storage device has been changed. One thing you need to pay attention to here is that Windows does not allow users to change the drive letter of the C drive. Of course, you can also rename these devices in "Computer Management", but the most convenient way is to modify it directly in  My Computer". If you change the name of a partition, such as the partition name of the C: drive, to “Windows”, the system is likely to have something wrong for you to have a headache. If your computer is already connected to the network, you can also assign a drive letter to the shared folder on the network. This is much more convenient than looking around in “Network Neighborhoods”, especially when you need to browse this folder frequently, you definitely prefer this method.

Here's how to do this: First open a file browser and click “Tools” “Map Network Drive”. In the "Driver" drop-down menu, select an empty drive letter, and then enter the corresponding shared folder path in the "folder" folder, or click on the "Browse" button to select the corresponding folder, and finally click “OK” After that, the mapped drive letter will appear in the "My Computer" You can also make more detailed adjustments to the system with the XP version of Tweak UI. You can hide the hard drive partition under “My Computer" "Drive Options". In this way you can hide the disk in "browser" & "file open/save", but even then you can still run from “ Dialog" or command prompt Access to the appropriate partition. You can also use the Tweak UI to reverse the display order of the partition name - drive letter. But in Tweak UI version 2.10, this feature has some problems: if you want the drive letter to appear before the partition name, you need to select "Never show drive letters", the same problem occurs for the network drive letter and partition name. In Vista, hiding the drive letter is a problem. Although there are some third-party software that can provide hidden functionality (Tweak UI), the official free Tweak UI does not currently support Vista. Of course, one of the solutions is to modify it through the Group Policy Editor under Vista (of course, first of all, you need this software in your Vista version). Select “User Settings” “Administrative Templates” “Windows Components" “ Windows Browser", double click on "hidden drive letter". But here you can only choose A:, B:, C:, D: or all four drive letters, so it may not be useful for you. There are some third-party software that can directly modify the corresponding items in the registry. You can also do the same thing. First you need to log in as a system administrator, click “Start” “Run” “Registry" or enter "Regedit" directly in the search bar. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer. If your registry does not have a corresponding key value, create a new DWORD in the right frame and name it NoDrives. Then find a piece of white paper, write A-1; B-2; C-4; D-8…, Z- from top to bottom, the value after the letter is twice the previous value, then you need to hide The number corresponding to the drive letter is added together. For example, the value corresponding to A, B, and G is 67. Double-click the newly created DWORD, select decimal, and then type 67 into it. Click “OK" to exit the Registry Editor. Logging in again and logging in will reveal that the drive letter has been hidden. If you want the drive letter to appear in front of the partition name, you can also add a key value below the registry. First go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer. In the right frame, create a DWORD named ShowDriveLettersFirst, then double-click it and enter a key value of 4. Then restart the computer, for all users, the drive letter has appeared in front of the partition name. Characters have no limits. You might ask, if I assign all the drive letters one day, I want to add storage devices. What should I do? Please don't worry, I can tell you that even if you assign all the drive letters, we still have a way to access these newly added storage devices. The way is that you can load these newly added hard disks into the previous hard disk partition as a folder. First, the loaded partition must be in NTFS format, and there must be no page file in the second loaded partition. If you meet the requirements, you can choose the disk management mentioned above, select the device you need to load to other locations, and select “change the drive name and path”. This time we click “Add …”, in the pop-up dialog box will display "Load the following blank NTFS folder", select "Browse", select the drive letter to be loaded Corresponding to the folder, or click the <;Create new file" button and select “OK”. When you go back to  My Computer", you will see that the files in that folder are all from the newly loaded hard drive. Then if the folder you loaded has indeed been assigned a drive letter, you can also delete the drive letter and access it only by the folder you just created. Here, you need to go back to the “Computer Management” option, and click “Add” to delete the “delete” option. The system will prompt this action may make the executable file on the disk unexecutable. Of course, if you just use this partition for storage, you can ignore this warning. Then select “OK” However, as the system warning says, if you really need to execute the executable file in this partition, it is very likely that this file will not start properly, but the image and video will not be affected by this. Vista Tips You must know how to use Shift or Ctrl when selecting multiple files under Windows. Vista“Folders and Search Options"""""""""""""""""""" If you click on this option, you will see a checkbox next to the document as you scroll over the file. By clicking on these checkboxes, you can select multiple files and perform multiple file operations.
