1. Delete unnecessary files in the system

(1) Delete system files backup

In the system file, the system32\\dllcache” directory has nearly 250MB files, which are backups of Windows® XP system files. When the Windows XP system files are replaced, deleted or modified, Windows XP can automatically extract the corresponding system file restores to ensure the stability of the system. This folder cannot be deleted directly, but you can clear it by typing the Sfc.exe /purgecache command at the command prompt.

(2) Delete the driver backup

Delete the Driver.cab file in the directory of the "driver cache\\i386" in the Windows XP system directory. This file stores the backup of the hardware driver. No need to use in case. Even if you need to install new hardware, you can insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

In the "Windows\\ime\\" folder, there are files related to the input method, including the traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean input methods. Most of us are useless. 2. Reduce the hard disk space occupied by the system

(1) Turn off the system restore

System Restore can return the computer to an earlier time (called the restore point) We won't lose our recent work, but after a long time, it will take up a lot of hard disk space. Therefore, it is necessary to manually set it to reduce the amount of hard disk usage.

Open the "System Properties" dialog box, select the "System Restore" tab in the dialog box, and select the "Close System Restore on All Drives" checkbox to turn off System Restore. If you do not turn off System Restore, you can set up a restore only for the disk or partition on which the system resides. First select the partition where the system is located, click the “Configure” button, in the pop-up dialog box, cancel the “System Restore” option for this drive and set the amount of disk space for system restore.

(2) Turn off hibernation support

Hibernate function will take up a lot of hard disk space. If you use less, you can turn it off. The method of closing is: Open “Control Panel” Double-click "Power Options" to select the "Hibernate" tab in the pop-up "Power Options Properties" dialog box to uncheck the "Enable Hibernate" checkbox.

(3) reduce or disable virtual memory

When the system's physical memory is relatively large, you can consider reducing the value of virtual memory or even cancel virtual memory, when you have 512MB of physical memory Virtual memory is set to half of physical memory, which is 256MB. If you have 1GB of physical memory, you can cancel virtual memory.

A long time for Internet access will generate a large number of temporary Internet files. Regular deletion will save a lot of hard disk space.

Open Internet Explorer and select “Internet Options” from the “Tools” menu. In the pop-up dialog box, select the “General” tab, in the “Temporary Internet Temporary File”. In the column, click the "Delete Files" button, and in the pop-up "Delete Files" dialog box, select the "Delete all offline content" checkbox and click the "OK" button.

You can also set the disk occupied by temporary Internet files to an acceptable range, click the “Settings" button in the "Internet Temporary Files" column, and then at “Settings” The dialog box (as shown in the figure) sets the disk space occupied by the temporary file, and can also move the folder of the temporary Internet file to another partition to reduce the occupation of the system partition disk.

4. File Compression in NTFS Partitions

Windows XP provides file compression attributes for NTFS partition files, which can effectively save disk space.

In the NTFS partition, select the file or folder to be compressed, right-click, select the “property" command in the shortcut menu, and then in the “Properties“ dialog box In the ” tab, click the “Advanced” button, and tick the "Consolidate content to save disk space" checkbox in the "Compress or Encrypt Properties" column of the new dialog box. ” After you find out that the disk space occupied by the file is greatly reduced.

5.Clear the Windows XP shared folder

“shared folder", this folder is useful when we use the workgroup, you can directly share it without any settings The files are placed in this shared folder, but in practice, many people do not need this feature. We can disable this feature by modifying the registry to save disk space.

Open the Registry Editor and find: subkeys under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion \\Explorer\\My Computer\\NameSpace\\DelegateFolders {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}&rdquo ;, delete this key value.
